Darwin Nordin

Artists Statement

Forms and structures in nature inspire me.

I balance periods of working without premeditation and working with a direction - with focused study and depiction of nature. The translucency and layering found in my drawings, paintings and prints echo a world seen into; a world examined on many levels and layers simultaneously; a world where chaos and order co-exist. By seeing into multiple layers, I can remove myself from the present and enter the bigger mysteries of the natural world.

My artwork celebrates that we all are nature and beauty.

About Darwin Nordin

Darwin is an accomplished artist and naturalist. He has been making and exploring his entire life. As a child growing up in a rural community he found wonder in the flora and fauna that surrounded him. His life has provided ample opportunity to hone his skills of observation, inquiry, and art making on multiple levels. Nature is his muse and artmaking is an important daily practice that provides breadth to his vision and comprehension of the world around him.

Darwin has studied art at the undergraduate and graduate level and is proficient in the use of numerous materials, mediums and techniques. Sharing his questions, discoveries, and practices with others has always been a welcome opportunity. His commitment and energy for engaging others in nature, and the creative process is at the center of a more than thirty-year career as a teaching artist, garden designer and naturalist.

Darwin’s work includes drawings, paintings and sculpture that reflect his fascination with the generative cycles and rhythms found in the natural world. His artwork has won several awards, is included in private and public collections, and has been exhibited nationally.
