A River Runs Through It: New Paintings by Jeff Olson

The central theme of my work has always lain within the primacy of the brushstroke in the process of painting. It is in essence the evidence of the physical interaction of the artist with the “stuff of this world,” an evidence of life.

The structure of these paintings is taken from the landscape, both the natural and man-made occurrences: ancient stream beds, worn paths, stone fences, and canyon walls.

At a fundamental level it is about transformation. The process of painting becomes an echo of the traces left from a story of living imprinted on the land.

“Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it.” Norman Maclean, A River Runs Through It and Other Stories

Forest for the Trees

New Work by Sara Everett

September 3rd - 27th, 2014

Opening on Friday, September 5th from 6 - 9pm

(*PLEASE NOTE - Pioneer Square Arts Walk will be on First FRIDAY in September.)

Houses constructed from torn paintings and paintings constructed from torn houses.

Sara Everett has been engaging in color play and teasing the limits of creation versus destruction. Rich layers of stain on reclaimed wood have been carved into, and paintings on canvas have been shredded to transform into sculpture. Each stands alone, but there is strength in the groupings.

Dopamine's Garden

July 2–26th, 2014

Dopamine’s Garden is a series of paintings exploring the lushness of our brain chemistry and how strange electrical impulses can propel us into intense pleasure seeking activities. The paintings are delicately hand drawn with ink and and a superfine brush, multi-layered, containing luscious floating worlds thick with unfurling dendritic vines harboring hidden creatures and the fragments of forgotten stories that inhabit our synaptic clefts and glial forests. They whisper tales of voodoo, addiction and the bonds of love.
